AOE/COE Investigations
Workers' compensation or AOE/COE investigations are conducted on behalf of employers, insurance companies, and Third-Party Administrators. These investigations involve interviewing/securing statements from the allegedly injured worker, witnesses, co-workers, and supervisors. We also examine documentary evidence. Surveillance and activity checks can also be conducted to gather information. Once the facts are gathered, they are investigated and reviewed. We will identify any discrepancies or inconsistencies that point to a potential fraud. We research any available employer defenses and relevant statutes to ensure a proper defense. Summaries of the statements and findings are drafted into a report for the client.
The investigation may also confirm the injured worker's version of events. If a claim is found to be valid, the investigation will save time and money in litigation costs and assist in lower-dollar settlements.
Auto Accident Liability Investigations
Mr. Maldonado has investigated auto accident liability claims against the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA). Numerous fraudulent claims were detected, which ultimately saved the LACMTA from fraud, waste, and abuse.
Investigations may include securing driver and witness statements, traveling to an accident scene, canvassing for witnesses, measuring tire marks on the streets, noting vehicle positions, and securing scene photographs and photographs of vehicle damage.
Criminal Defense Investigations
The investigations on behalf of defense attorneys include visiting the jails or intake release centers to interview defendants, and we also secure statements from witnesses and the alleged victims. These investigations also include, but are not limited to, reviewing police reports and other pieces of discovery, visiting the scenes of the alleged crimes and performing background searches on the defendant as well as the alleged victim and the witnesses. Mr. Maldonado has worked on several high-profile cases and has had the honor of working with several of Orange County's most revered criminal defense attorneys.
